If you care for someone for at least 35 hours a week and they get certain disability benefits, you could get Carer's Allowance. You do not have to be related to them or live with them.

The person you care for must get
One of these, for example:
- PIP daily living part
- Disability Living Allowance, middle or highest care rate
- Attendance Allowance
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
You must
All of these must apply:
- be 16 or over
- care for them at least 35 hours a week
- have been in Great Britain for at least 2 of the last 3 years
- not be in full-time education, or studying 21 hours a week or more
- earn £204 a week or less after tax, National Insurance and expenses
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens usually also need settled or pre-settled status. In Scotland you apply for Carer Support Payment instead.
With Universal Credit
If you get Universal Credit, it goes down by the amount of your Carer's Allowance. You may still get the carer amount in Universal Credit (£209.34 a month), even without Carer's Allowance.
The person you care for may lose a severe disability premium when you claim. We check this before you apply.
You can backdate Carer's Allowance by up to 3 months.
